North Carolina Symphony Education Concert Field Trip

Each year, fourth grade students from the Wake County Public School System attend a free education concert presented by the North Carolina Symphony. The fourth grade teachers, special programs teaching assistants, and Mrs. Hopkins chaperone the field trip.
Teachers pose outside the BTI Center for Performing Arts.

Students pose outside the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

The North Carolina Symphony presents the education concert in Meymandi Concert Hall, located in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh.

Mrs. Hopkins prepares the students for the education concert by teaching them about the instruments of the orchestra, the compositions they will hear, and the songs they will sing with the North Carolina Symphony during the concert. The program for 2006-2007 includes:

Works by Franz Schubert, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Emmanuel Chabrier, and Jennifer Higdon

Songs: "Cripple Creek" (Appalachian Folk Tune)
and "The Star-Spangled Banner"

View the education booklet published by the NC Symphony. We are studying this booklet in our music classes.
